How to Use Mykos and Azos Together for Stronger, Faster Root Growth

If you are propagating cuttings or transplanting houseplants, root health is everything. Mykos and Azos are two powerful tools that help roots grow stronger and faster, especially when used together. The key is knowing when and how to apply each one correctly.

What is Mykos

Mykos is a natural mycorrhizal inoculant. It forms a beneficial relationship with the plant's roots, helping them absorb more water and nutrients. Mykos is most effective during transplant, when roots are already forming and the plant is moving into a new medium like soil, coco, or LECA with organic content.

What is Azos

Azos is a beneficial bacteria that supports root initiation and early root growth. It is especially helpful during propagation when roots have not yet formed. Azos also improves nitrogen availability and helps young plants establish faster.

How to Use Them

Azos
During propagation, you can soak fresh cuttings in an Azos solution for ten to thirty minutes to encourage faster rooting. Once roots begin to form, you can mix Azos into your watering solution and use it every few waterings during early growth.

Plant Haven Tip
Adjust your water pH to between 6.0 and 6.5 before adding Azos. This keeps the bacteria active and helps your plant absorb the benefits effectively. Always use freshly mixed Azos solution and avoid storing it.

Mykos
Use Mykos at transplant time only. Sprinkle the dry powder directly onto the roots or into the planting hole so it makes direct contact with the root system. This is essential for the fungi to colonize and begin supporting the plant.

Do not mix Mykos into your watering solution - it is not designed to be used that way and will not work unless it touches the roots directly.

Can You Use Them Together

Yes. Azos supports root initiation and early development. Mykos helps the plant build a strong long-term root system. Use Azos during the propagation and early watering phase, then follow up with Mykos during transplant when the roots are established.

What About LECA or Pon

Azos works well in LECA. You can soak cuttings in it or add it to your early watering schedule. Mykos can still be beneficial in LECA or Pon if you coat the roots with it before transplanting. While it performs best in soil or coco, it can still help colonize root zones in semi-organic setups.

Plant Haven Tip
We soak Monstera albo cuttings in Azos before placing them in LECA, then apply Mykos during transplant into their final pots. This combination gives them a head start and a stronger root system over time. Shop Root Boosters here
