Fertilizing in LECA or Pon? Here’s What You Need to Know
Share
Growing in LECA or Pon comes with perks. Less mess. Easier watering. Fewer fungus gnats. But fertilizing can feel like a mystery if you are used to soil. Here is how to do it right.
1. Use a complete liquid fertilizer
Solid fertilizers do not work here. You need something that dissolves fully. [Foliage Focus] is ideal for semi-hydro systems because it is already balanced and stable in water.
2. Adjust your dilution
Start with a weak dilution - about one quarter to one half strength. Plants in LECA and Lechuza Pon absorb nutrients faster, so gentler is better.
3. Flush regularly
Salt buildup can sneak in. Flush your LECA or Pon once a month with clean water to prevent root stress.
4. Watch for algae
If you notice green slime in your reservoir, reduce light exposure or clean more often. Fertilizer plus light can encourage algae growth.
5. Add root support
Root Zone works in Pon and LECA too. It improves nutrient uptake and helps stabilize your plant’s transition if you are new to semi-hydro.
